The Best Sunsets Ever

There is nothing like experiencing a Pacific Coast sunset from a cliffside bench sipping a glass of local wine.  Many Bed and Breakfasts offer complimentary wine for their guests, either a bottle in-room upon their arrival or a little afternoon wine and cheese snack.  The Sea Rock Inn, with it’s cliffside bench,  offers complimentary Husch Chenin Blanc in room and is very popular.  Husch Winery is located in the Anderson valley 20 minutes from Mendocino along with a multitude of California Wineries to explore.  Our Pacific Coast sunsets rival any all around the world.  Local galleries such as the Prentice Gallery, The Mendocino Art Center, and the Artist Co-op present breathtaking photos and paintings of our own natural beauty.

What to Wear for Mendocino Weather

Snowsuits to swimsuits?  Maybe not to those extremes but be prepared for significant changes in temperatures during all times of the year.  The coast is very unpredictable weatherwise and it behooves you to be aware of perhaps a 40 degree drop in temperature from the inland valleys to the coast.  Summer can be foggy and cool, winter can be clear and crisp, spring and fall, temperate. The best way to be prepared is layer, layer, layer.  ALWAYS bring a sweatshirt, t-shirt, long pants, tennis shoes and flip flops.  Fill in between these items and you will do just fine. Oh, and also dress your eyes with sunglasses.  The glare off the water can be blinding.  Local at Big River Beach.

Fort Bragg Whale Festival

Continue the fun on the coast with the Fort Bragg Whale Festival, Friday and Saturday, March 15-16.  Participate in the 30th annual Whale Run and Walk starting at 8:00am at the train depot.  Saturday only.  Chowder tastings at the Town Hall is $10 but awesome as many great chefs of the area share their recipes for this competition.  Wash it all down at the Microbrew Beer Tasting at Eagles Hall from 12-4 Saturday.  Further north at MacKerricher State Park the kids would love participating in the Scavenger Hunt and paint the Whale Skeleton. Point Cabrillo Light House Station will have Decent-led tours for those interested in the lens and history of the immediate area.  Look to the Fort Bragg web site on the festival for detailed information.

Whale Watching

I see a whale!  I see one!  There!  I see a spout!!!  Come to the Mendocino Coast any time during the first three weeks in March and watch the whale migration from anywhere, on any cliff, on any ocean view deck, the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse or any lodging that affords the location and binoculars to enjoy this annual event.  The mamas and their calves are swimming north and can be viewed from anywhere along the California Coast, bringing the babies to the surface and lolling around showing off their newborns.  Enjoy three Whale Festivals, one each weekend in Mendocino, Fort Bragg and Little River respectively.  These gentle giants are awesome to see!

Gearing up for the 4th!

The next big ‘tada’ on the Mendocino Coast is the big 4th of July celebration!

Mendocino’s Annual 4th of July Parade ~ 11:30 -!
Somewhere around 5000 people (5 times the population!) line the streets of Mendocino (Main St. & Lansing St.) to watch this kooky hometown parade. Come early to get a good spot. Parking is available on any side street, just don’t block a driveway. Continue the fun after the parade at Friendship Park! Lots of booths, games and music.

Of course the most practical place to stay so you can WALK and not drive to this fun parade is at the Sea Rock Inn.  We only have a few rooms left, yes, ONLY A FEW, so don’t miss out on all the fun stuck in traffic!!  Call us: 707-937-0926 or 800-906-0926 or make reservations on line at: www.searockinn.comkids parade

A wet Monday to start off the week—

Who would have thought that the Mendocino area would be experiencing rain during the first week in June??  With weather patterns changing so drastically all over the country, it is no surprise that the coast would be having a little diversity itself.

But no matter, rain or no rain,  Mendocino still offers the unique opportunities to  participate in all types of activities.  By staying at the Sea Rock Inn one can use the location as a central hub to enjoy browsing shops and galleries, hike the quiet misty beaches, enjoy different eateries or just kick back and read that great book that has been on the shelf for months.

Give us a call and book a quiet retreat (maybe even a massage) sometime this week to gain some R & R before the rush of summer.          800-906-0926 or 707-937-0926   http://searockinn.com

The Sea Rock Inn and the Sea

Everyone has heard of the “The Old Man and the Sea”, well we have something new for you.  If you have never experienced ‘the sea’, it is time to come over to the coast and become one with the magnificent expanse that is called the Pacific Ocean.  You could write your own story of yourself and the sea.

At the Sea Rock Inn one gains an awesome respect for the ocean as it is never the same on any given day.  It has moods and attitudes, it is joyful and somber, it holds secrets and tells tales of millenniums gone by.  Like gazing at stars on a clear night gives one peace, so does staring at the ebb and flow and movement of the waters.

There is no other place I would rather be than by my friend the sea.  Come to the Mendocino Coast and join us at the Sea Rock Inn and experience this healing peace.

The Mendocino Coast – The whales’ playground

I know that all you readers out there may be getting a little tired of hearing about our wonderful friends the whales but their presence cannot be ignored.  The excitement their sightings bring to children’s faces and on those of adults alike is memorable.

The Sea Rock Inn is located right on a cliff that offers panoramic views of the ocean and offers binoculars in every accommodation so that the gentle giants can be brought up close and personal.  If anyone is watching a Discovery Channel program called The Frozen Planet, you will gain a wealth of knowledge about these intelligent animals and gain much respect for them.

Give us a call to reserve your front row seat for this phenomenal migration and feel the excitement we do and you will not stop talking about it either!!
