Mendocino in the Movies

Movies that were shot in Mendocino County include such classics as East of Eden(1954), The Russians are Coming (1965), and The Summer of ’42 (1971). More recently, The Majestic starring Jim Carrey, was filmed at Big River Beach, Cabrillo Lighthouse, and the Skunk Train Depot in Fort Bragg.

Murder, She Wrote and some Fugitive series was also filmed in the Village of Mendocino.

Mendocino, once called the Hollywood of the north, attracts many producers of documentaries and short films. One never knows when they may be caught on camera! Come to the Mendocino Film Festival to enjoy special screenings and other events starting in early June. Put it on your calendar now so that you have something fun to look forward to in a couple of months. It will be here before you know it!!

Tuesday—it’s not an ‘oh no it’s a Monday’ day—it’s not yet a ‘hump’ day–or a TGIF day. It’s one of those nondescript days that could easily become a ‘ho-hum’ day.

That’s why you should be here at the Sea Rock Inn where no day is a ho-hum day!! Today, Tuesday, finds us overlooking a wintry ocean; gray with white caps and a misty horizon. Guests were fortified with a tasty breakfast before they went off to browse shops or walk on the beach. Fireplaces will make cottages cozy for an afternoon snooze before stepping out for a scrumptuous dinner of crab and wine.

A day in the life of a Sea Rock Innkeeper……

Sunday, football playoffs and fab food! As the communities of Mendocino and Fort Bragg celebrated with crab cake cook offs and festive crab events, my family decided to do some of our own cook offs! I’ve got to admit my crab cakes were sumptuous, the cracked crab messy but yummy, the jumbo raw shrimp sautéed in minced onions, garlic and butter was to die for and the salmon; well what can you say about salmon!

Now it’s Monday and back to work at the Sea Rock and letting you know that you should have been here to share in the fun!! Today the sun is shining and the waves are crashing. You still have time to join in the Crab and Wine festivities here–we still have rooms left for next weekend! http://searock.com

I can smell it now—the aroma of fresh steamed crab and crab cakes!! Oh my goodness how yummy, my mouth is watering!

The forecast of much-needed rain for the Mendocino Coast will just be an added treat to the start of the Wine and Crab Festival. Drippy weather is no deterrent for those who crave the crab! The winter coastal drearies will be made warm and dry by all the restaurants and events that take place indoors. Who cares about a few rain drops or mist when one has a meal of the most luscious crustacean paired with the most delicious wine in front of them.

For the more adventurous; catch your own crab aboard a crab boat out of Noyo Harbor (even in the rain) and have it cooked right on the dock when you return! Oh my goodness, I am making myself VERY hungry as I write this!! My mouth is watering!!

Coming back to the Sea rock Inn after a day of feeding and fun will be the icing on the cake! Book a massage for late afternoon and drop into a nice warm bed in front of a fireplace. Nod off to a movie filmed in Mendocino and awaken to a sumptuous breakfast the next morning.
